Field Trip to DSDHH |
The first day of Deaf Camp was so
much fun! But it was also a very long day, we started at 9:00 AM and did not
end until almost 9:00 PM. Previous years here they have done shorter days, five
days a week, and mainly hung out at the church and had a time of playing games,
a class on going and making disciples of all nations, Bible story class, crafts class, and things like that. This year they decided to do something a little bit
different, so we will be having longer days, only two days a week, and we will
be taking some field trips to various places. For example, on the first day we
took a field trip to the North Carolina Division of Services for the Deaf and
Hard of Hearing, which offers services and resources to the Deaf like doorbells
with flashing lights, and alarm clocks with flashing lights and things like
that. We also visited the Central Piedmont Community College, to give the youth/children an idea of what college was like if they decided to attend college
when they finish high school. It was fun, and everyone seemed to enjoy it.
Besides the field trip, we also played some games, and had a Bible lesson, and
Praise Team practice. We had about ten youth and children come out for the
first day of camp. Then we also had the Wednesday night services that night,
which is why it was such a long day. I really enjoyed the Bible study Wednesday
night and the Camp!
Field Trip to CPCC |
This past week we have been really
busy with Vacation Bible School, and because we have had that we have not been
doing the normal Deaf Camp activities. VBS was AWESOME! We had on average about
twelve youth and children come out during the week for the Deaf children and
youth classes, some of them were also siblings of the Deaf. We had a lot of fun
playing games, doing crafts, having Bible story, and also doing Praise Team
practice. So far I am having an amazing Summer, and so thankful for God giving
me this opportunity to be involved in a Deaf Church and to get to know
everyone I have here. I am excited about the rest of
the Summer, although right now I am also very tired, it has been a busy past
couple of weeks, and tomorrow morning we are leaving bright and early to head
for Memphis, where we will spend a week helping a Deaf church down there start
a Deaf Summer Camp. Please pray for a safe trip, and for the work that we
will be doing down there.
